Extra Bitter Chocolate

This one just in from KCRA News--"Hershey Co. has announced plans to close Scharffen Berger's West Berkeley manufacturing plant and the San Francisco factory that makes Joseph Schmidt chocolates."

What's next buddies? Where's the fun going? This now means no free and educational field trip tours (tasting included) to the local chocolate factory. (photo of cacao beans by flickr's timfierres)

This also means the cute gift shop & cafe will not be there. What's better than a gift shop where you can buy an assortment of cocoa-flavored lip gloss, fine chocolate, cookbooks, measuring cups, posters & extra bitter chocolate tee shirts that make good gifts for grumpy guys?

It's a double bitter Humpday with frownie faces on top.

awful news.

i will add to your list of reasons for this being such awful news. elka, elly + hunter, and i had the most delicious brunch on the patio of the scharf berg cafe one sunny sunday last year. it was a second choice as 900 Grayson was closed, but we were delightfully pleased.

boo hoo.

we didn't want those stinkin' pennsylvanians and their puritanical chocolate notions intruding on our west coast flavors anyway!!
