Road Trippin' 2008

Thanks to Yuri for posting a little tide over post (see her minifesto below) while I was out on the road. I am back and thought I would share a few photos from the road. I took over 1400 photos and they were mostly of rocks! Like this one...And this one... We drove to Denver for R's 20th High School Reunion (go figure, he actually wanted to attend his and I tagged along because I assume I will never attend one of my own). Here's the class of '88 at Coors Field in downtown Denver where the reunion was held. The poor photographer was having a heck of a time getting them to focus and take a photo together! Silly grown-ups!I actaully had fun, even though I only knew a few of those guys. I ended up hanging out in the "wives club" for a bit.We drove through Nevada and Utah (twice, different routes), Wyoming, Colorado and California. The highlight for me was probably visiting Arches National Park. The rocks were surreally massive and beautiful. The photos just don't do it justice. My only complaint is that we didn't get quite enough time in Southern Utah. We stopped in Vegas for two days. I am wondering when will I learn that Vegas is bad news for me when it is 112 degrees. I get grumpy. The silly part is I've done this all four times I have been since 2003, hung out in the post 100 degree heat. Ugh! See me here parched with a water bottle. Our after realization is that we should of only spent ONE day there and hung out in Bryce and Zion National parks for a day instead. Live and learn, huh?

I would also like to go back to this trail by the river in Colorado and ride bikes sometime.Through the tunnel...And by the clouds, I took tons of clouds shots since I never see them in the bay area!Whizzing by Salt Lake...We made a pit stop in Park City, UT to see my uncle and cousins. We also made a detour to visit the Pie Lady in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Here's the road in Colorado near the ski resorts. We meet up with R's parents who had driven from Tucson to come visit. We obviously ate a few of these along the way.And a few of these...And of course one of these!R did a lot of this the whole trip.I took a lot of shots of the Wynn. It is still the most lavish casino in Vegas at the moment, but there's TONS of construction going down at the moment. Here's where we stayed in Vegas, settling for nothing less than freshpinkstyle neon. Here's the water show at the Bellagio. We took the heated 7 mile walk to Fremont Street to look at the whizzing mobiles and whatnot. We were trying to see this...But all we saw was this with NO Queen soundtrack. The Rebels gave a little break on our usual California gas prices. This is good because all that extra cash saved on gas was spent on the 40-something records that got purchased on this trip.On the road back to California, Joshua trees were sprinkled about. There was also a little junk pile up here and there. Not fresh. Yuri's coming back from Hawaii tomorrow. YO, wanna share some fresh tropical shots for the FPS readers?

Thanks for the cool road trip photos. I would have never guessed that you'd stay at the Flamingo. :-)

Fun times! I love your trip blog!

How was the Flamingo? It's been my favorite place to stay on the strip for a while now, cause it's still a leeeetle bit old timey (and very roadside attraction-y with those penguins!), but still nice enough! I hope it still delivers on its sparkly promise.
